The NZChefs National Salon – New Zealand’s hospitality championships – returns to the Logan Campbell Centre for four days this July, alongside The Auckland Food Show.
Entry to the Salon is free and visitors can view some of NZ’s top culinary and hospitality stars in action.
There are competitions for all levels from primary and secondary schools to the coveted tertiary Nestlé Toque d’Or competition, followed by top national and international chefs.
Visitors can watch margarine sculpting and cake decorating, alongside some ‘old school’ hospitality events, including competitive bed making and barista and cocktail smack down events, where a drink is chosen by the spin of a wheel, then created by the competitor against the clock.
New to the Salon this year is the ‘Rookie Cook of the Year’ for under twenty- five year olds, which will be judged by former Chef of the Year and International Award winner William Mordido. Plus a High Tea class, the People’s Choice Curry Cup and ‘Best Snarler’ competitions where the public can vote for their favourites and an old school Gueridon Service event (think Crepes Suzette served flaming to the table!)
The international feature competition is the Gourmet Pacific Challenge where teams of chefs from Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands will be competing for the Pacific Rim title.
So whether you’re a keen foodie or professional chef, there’ll be plenty of action to whet your appetite!
