A man who has made of his love and passion for Italy, his business, his life and his greatest venture in New Zealand.
Born in Italy and 1962, Antonio Cacace married Luisa, a Kiwi of Italian descendant who used to go to visit her extended family in Massalubrense, on the Amalfi Coast where Antonio lived and where he was carrying on the family Hotel, La Primavera. After few years they got married and decided to move to Wellington.
Antonio’s passion and knowledge for Italian products and cuisine, for travelling to find the best products available in Italy to serve to his customers at La Primavera, starts when he was very young.
From his father, Luigi, Antonio learns the secrets of the Italian Cuisine, based on fresh and simple ingredients, the importance of choosing the right ingredients, to combine them according to the best traditions and to look for quality products.
From his mother, Anna and his father, Antonio learns the value of working hard, to be hands on and to always look for improvements and why not, new opportunities.
New Zealand was for him an unknown land, but mostly, when he arrived, Italy’s products and traditions were unknown to New Zealand.
La Bella Italia Restaurant, Retail and café as well as La Bella Distributors, started operating in 1996. The former became very soon a well-known and established restaurant, appreciated for its authentic Italian Cuisine, the quality and uniqueness of its Italian products, especially deli products like cheeses and cured meats. Twenty years later Antonio, opens Bel Mondo, Beautiful World, in Lyall Bay, an International Food Market with a Café and Pizzeria where people can meet, eat and shop. From 2007 Antonio started personalised guided Tours to Italy, one Tour per year, to introduce Kiwi to the oldest Italian cooking Traditions as well as to the art of making some of the most known Italian products, like the Prosciutto di Parma, Culatello, the balsamic Vinegar, the Extra Virgin Olive oil and so on. Of course, the Tours are an opportunity to visit places and enjoy La Dolce Vita. Antoni also started the Cibo-Arte Events, to combine Italian food with Art and Music. Finally Antonio is also the promoter and organiser of the Italian festival in New Zealand.
