Stonecroft is the oldest winery in the Gimblett Gravels. It is 30 years old this year and is a true boutique winery, family owned and operated.
At Stonecroft, we produce only a very small quantity of wine. Traditional methods are used and our approach is one of minimal intervention. Pruning, canopy management and harvesting are carried out by hand. Only organic methods are used and yields are very low. We are currently in conversion to organic certification and expect to be fully certified in January 2013. Our philosophy is one of quality without compromise. Not only are the wines made on site, but the wines are also bottled and labelled by hand at the winery.
Stonecroft was the first vineyard in New Zealand to commercially produce Syrah and it has the oldest Syrah vines in New Zealand. It is well known for its Syrah, Gewürztraminer, Chardonnay and Zinfandel wines. We also make a Hawke’s Bay style Sauvignon Blanc and a Merlot/ Cabernet Sauvignon blend.
