Our Story ~ A Recipe for Success!
What started out as fun cook ups for friends, has turned out to be a busy business - prooving that a love for food and a passionate drive can translate into a triving business! Mel Hurst & Avi Kewalramani are the driving forces behind "Mels". With no funds, full time jobs and a baby, Mel & Avi have grown the brand - providing authentic Indian recipes to avid Indian food lovers - and converting many along the way! Using 'word-of-mouth' marketing only at the start has now built up to a tremendous customer base who can't do without their Mel's curry fixes!
Having spent a lot of time in the food sector in India and overseas, both as a student and in the profession, gave Avi the edge and tools to formulate a business model that really works!! Mel, being a lover of food and a cook from a very young age and living in and enjoying food from different regions of India has all added to the 'Recipe for Succes' mix!
Today Mels little factory in Glen Innes, Auckland provides their range to gourmet delis across the Country plus to thier 'word of mouth' customers in faraway towns in Aotearoa. Mels also provides to the hospitality industry - to cafes, clubs, caterers & pubs...
