In April 2002 the Jack Link’s meat snacks company opened a purpose built 40,000 sq ft plant in Auckland, as a joint venture operation. Since its inception, the family based company has rapidly grown into a multi million-dollar business to a point where today it has established itself as the number one meat snack brand in the world. This growth has been attributed to the healthy aspects of beef snacks such as its high protein & iron content and low fat level
Using only lean topside beef the Jack Link’s Auckland factory is currently purchasing over 100 tonnes per week to meet demand. These whole cuts are marinated and sliced, then cooked in large smoke ovens running 24 hours a day. The product is then specially packed to ensure its’ freshness with 95% of the production now exported to over 20 countries with a large component sent to the USA.
Traditionally a carbohydrate snack nation the New Zealand protein snack market is slowly growing as more people become aware of the desirable qualities as a smart snack versus snacks such as chips and confectionery. While jerky makes up a large part of production especially for export, the steak bars and beef sticks are very popular with all ages due to its convenient format and great taste. The AucklandFood Show will see the new beef stick being launched which is a great addition to the range.
The long shelf life makes Jack Link's beef snacks not only the perfect snack for all outdoor activities which require a snack to ‘top up the tank’ such as boating and hiking, but also ideal to have on hand for any social occasion with your favourite drink. They are the smart snack for the lunchbox where protein is often lacking.
Jack Links meat snacks are now available at many leading supermarkets and liquor stores throughout the country.
